The Hut Project for the Disaster Risk Stakeholder Hub Webinar
Project Update / March 5, 2025
The webinar, moderated by Ben Hall from the Resilience Advisors Network, brought together experts and stakeholders to explore how digital platforms can enhance decision-making and resilience in disaster-prone communities.
By integrating expertise from scientific communities, policymakers, and local stakeholders, The Hut project aims to develop transdisciplinary tools that enhance preparedness and response to disasters across Europe. The project’s multi-hazard demonstrations serve as real-world testing grounds for innovative solutions.
The webinar featured two key case studies demonstrating the effectiveness of The Hut’s approach:
- Italy & Spain: Development of real-time monitoring systems and civil protection tools to support local authorities in assessing weather-induced hazards.
- Iceland: Introduction of a community-focused web portal to provide real-time hazard updates, improve risk awareness, and enhance emergency preparedness for residents.
They underscored The Hut’s commitment to empowering both local authorities and communities through digital innovation.
The webinar highlighted the work of DIRECTED, which focuses on interoperable data models and governance improvements in disaster resilience. The Data Fabric, a cloud-based platform under development, was presented as a cutting-edge tool for real-time data sharing, modeling, and risk assessment.
Key Takeaways from the Webinar
- Digital platforms play a crucial role in enhancing disaster preparedness at the municipal and community levels.
- Collaboration among EU projects and stakeholders strengthens knowledge-sharing and long-term resilience.
- Ensuring sustainability beyond project lifecycles is essential to maintaining the effectiveness of risk management tools.
