University College London published ‘Translating Warnings into Action’
News release / May 10, 2023
University College of London (UCL) associated partner in The HuT project – aiming to build a safe haven against climate crisis – published recently a report about early warning systems.
It is indeed pivotal to recognise early warnings for hazard to minimise economic losses and save lives. In many cases, it is possible to have information that might help communities and governments to be prepared.
The report provides a tour of early warning systems, making clear that there are many ways to improve the measures currently in place. A community can communicate better and improves its warning accuracy or more research on the topic might be conducted. A strategic and collaborative approach can make a difference.
This fits perfectly into the work that is being done within The HuT project. The collective effort is indeed one of the key points of the methodology adopted: different measures will be tested and exchanged within the 10 demo sites to assess the best way to cope with climate extremes.
