GERICS Showcases “The Human-Tech Nexus: Art as a Driving Link” at UNDRR 2024
Project Update / November 13, 2024

Invited by the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), the presentation, titled “The Human-Tech Nexus: Art as a Driving Link,” highlighted the innovative work of the Horizon Europe project, The Human-Tech Nexus: Building a Safe Haven to Cope with Climate Extremes (The HuT).
The HuT project, in which GERICS is a key consortium partner, aims to bring interdisciplinary and supra-regional strategies to tackle the complex risks associated with extreme climate events. This year’s Ignite Stage session provided an ideal forum for GERICS to showcase its efforts to integrate art as a core component of the human-tech relationship, encouraging new forms of resilience building through creative engagement.
Audience members showed strong interest in the approach, applauding The HuT’s work to bridge technology and human experience through art. The initiative resonated with participants, aligning with broader efforts by regional Member States to foster collaborative strategies for disaster risk reduction. The commitments voiced during the session signal a collective determination to strengthen community resilience across Europe and Central Asia, which participants committed to emphasize at COP29 in Baku.
This engagement highlights the importance of diverse approaches in addressing climate-driven risks and underscores the potential of art to inspire and drive action within disaster risk reduction efforts.
